FAQ

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL OR RESCHEDULE A LESSON?

My personal cancellation policy is that students need to give me at least 24 hours’ notice if they want payment for the missed lesson refunded in the event that we can’t reschedule it.  With less than 24 hours’ notice, payment will not be refunded and reschedules will only be offered at my discretion.  My team members’ cancellation policies may differ from mine.  If you are assigned to one of them, further details will be provided to you.

HOW DO I PAY FOR LESSONS?

Payment is handled directly between students and me (this includes students working with my colleagues).  Students will pay for their trial lesson upfront, and later, after a successful trial, all remaining lessons for the month by bank transfer.  Payment for each month of lessons is due in advance by the first scheduled lesson of the month.

DO I NEED MY OWN PIANO FOR LESSONS?

Yes. Students must have an instrument to practice on during the time between lessons so they will progress.  However, I understand that some students who do not already own a piano may be unsure about investing in an instrument before ascertaining their interest in regular lessons.  I would be happy to speak to anyone with this concern to discuss the options I can offer.  If you need help selecting a piano, I am happy to make either acoustic or digital recommendations based on your budget and practice needs.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO MY FIRST LESSON?

Just a notebook!  Teachers need something in which they can write down students’ weekly assignments.  All other materials will either be provided by the teacher or assigned by the teacher for you to purchase.  Please remember to have all books and supplies ready at each lesson.

CAN I OBSERVE MY CHILD'S LESSON?

Of course.  I recommend that parents of young students stay involved in their children’s lessons and practicing until the students can confidently pace themselves.

DO YOU HOLD STUDIO RECITALS?

Yes, I make sure to host one studio recital each year, which I organise for my own students as well as those of my colleagues.  The recital is not required but strongly recommended.  Students looking for extra performance opportunities are welcome to ask me or their teacher for suggestions.

CAN YOU PREPARE STUDENTS FOR ABRSM GRADE EXAMS?

Yes. As a child, I completed all 8 grades of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music program, and so I am very familiar with how the exams are structured. Most of my colleagues are also qualified to help with ABRSM exams.

DO YOU HAVE A BACKGROUND CHECK?

Yes, my colleagues and I all have Enhanced DBS clearances.  I’m happy to provide a copy of my certificate or that of the teacher you’re working with if you request it.
